The idea of Jesus being the only way of salvation is one of the hardest things for people to swallow. Even Christians have a hard time with it. It’s a stumbling block, a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense is the way the New Testament writers put it. Well, I’m going to give you an illustration that might help you understand why this is a reasonable claim.
The story is told of a king who having discovered money was stolen from his treasury, he money was stolen from his treasury, he and that when the criminal was found that that criminal would receive twenty that criminal would receive twenty lashes for the theft. They found the criminal. Turned out that the criminal was the king’s aged mother.
When he found out who was the wrong doer in this situation, he still brought her in, put her to the stake, had her tied up, had her back bared, and just before the whipping was to commence, he stood up from his throne, took off his royal robe, removed his crown, set aside his scepter, bared his own back, walked down to the stake, and wrapped his huge body around the frail body of his mother, and then commanded for the scourging to commence. And every single blow that was intended mother deserved fell on the back of the king king.
You see, this is the kind of thing that Jesus did for us because in the dark hours Calvary all the punishment that was to Calvary all the punishment that was due us fell upon Jesus. And this was predicted long before. “Surely our griefs He Himself bore. He was pierced through for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray. Each of us has turned but the lord has caused the iniquity of to his own way, but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.”
You see, no other man has done this. No other man stood in our place and took justice can be fulfilled yet we can experience mercy you want to do well experience mercy. You want to know why Jesus is the only way of salvation? It’s because He’s the only one who solved the problem. He’s the only one who paid the debt. No other man did this, no other man could. Jesus was absolutely unique.
