If, within the next week, the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade as expected, the need for you to make sound and persuasive arguments against abortion in conversations with your family, friends, and neighbors will increase as the topic heats up dramatically. And not only will the debates around you increase, but never will your arguments matter more, since persuasion can now lead to legislation.
To help you prepare for this, I recommend the video below by Megan Almon of Life Training Institute (from the Colson Center’s What Would You Say? series). She starts off by reminding us,
Dismissing opposition [to abortion] as religious ideology is intellectually lazy. There are rational arguments against abortion.
Indeed! And Megan simply and clearly explains the pro-life argument, giving a case against abortion that you can explain to others in less than a minute. She also offers a three-step outline to follow when you’re challenged:
- Formally state the case against abortion.
- Defend the case against abortion by clearly stating the reasons for your pro-life position.
- Establish ground rules for further discussion.
She does all of this in less than five minutes. Learn the arguments Megan presents against abortion, and then help educate others and start some discussions by passing this video on to both pro-lifers and pro-choicers. The simple truth about abortion has the power to change minds. As Megan says,
Rather than imposing [our views], we are proposing a more just and better way in hopes we can persuade our fellow citizens to protect the most vulnerable in our society.
