What Michael Ots has to say to apologists in this video is so important.
I think one mistake that apologists can make is that we can be so busy explaining the truth of the Gospel, we can lose sight of the wonder of the Gospel....
An apologetics talk shouldn’t simply be about dismantling people’s objections, but there should be a positive attraction to the person of Jesus that comes through it....
As apologists, let’s soak ourselves in Scripture, let’s remind ourselves afresh daily of what Christ has done for us, and then let’s seek in all that we do to be commending Christ to others.
I wholeheartedly agree. As I wrote last year, “Our goal ought to be to immerse ourselves in Jesus so well and so often that His love and grace can’t help but come out of us as part of our apologetic arguments.” We all need to spend more time thinking about the beauty of Jesus and His Gospel. To that end, I recently read Gospel Deeps: Reveling in the Excellencies of Jesus by Jared Wilson, and I recommend it very highly to you. Here’s what Wilson reminds us:
To study the gospel, then, in all its wonders and effects, is to better see “the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Cor. 4:6). This is all that we might love him. That we might know his love and love him.
