We often receive messages from people who want advice on how to become an apologetics speaker, and one recommendation we make is that they attend Frank Turek’s CrossExamined Instructor Academy:
CIA is an intense three-day program where you will learn how to present I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist—which involves four main topics: Truth, God, Miracles and the New Testament—and how to answer questions about those topics in a hostile environment. During those three days, in addition to hearing lectures and participating in discussions, you will be asked to present a portion of I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist and answer questions from several instructors including Frank Turek, Greg Koukl, Richard Howe, J.Warner Wallace, Brett Kunkle, Sean McDowell, Bobby Conway and others.
The unique thing about CIA is that you won’t just learn about topics you’d like to teach; you’ll also get instruction on how to speak from veteran speakers like those listed above—how to craft your message, how to recover if you stumble, how to respond to questions, how to dress, etc., etc. You’ll also have the chance to do a short presentation in front of one of the instructors, who will then give you detailed feedback, helping you improve your skills as a speaker. It’s a great opportunity!
This year, CIA will take place in Dallas on August 10–12, but it’s not too early to start thinking about it, because the application deadline is in June and there are reading and preparation requirements you’ll need to complete before you go.
