Witnessing methods for engaging with LDS missionaries:

Preparing for a good meeting with LDS Missionaries:

  • The goal of this meeting is to put a stone in their shoe. It takes a questioning LDS member years to leave the LDS church. Your goal is to give them something to think about that will help make them question LDS theology and Joseph Smith. Don’t get frustrated if they don’t see the errors in their religion in your first meeting. It’s a process; put a stone in their shoe.
  • Most LDS missionaries are young adults who go on their mission after graduating high school. They are typically from strong families and good homes. To have a good meeting with them, make your home inviting by providing refreshments. Donuts and cookies are a good choice. These missionaries have a lot of people mistreat them while on their mission. Doors slammed in their face, name calling, etc… Be welcoming and kind.
  • IMPORTANT POINT: Don’t offer or drink coffee during your engagement with LDS missionaries. According to one of their Scriptures, Doctrines and Covenants 89, LDS members are not allowed to drink coffee.
  • Typically, missionaries can meet for about an hour and then they have to leave for other appointments. Try to set up a second meeting with them before they leave. Ongoing conversations can make more of an impact than a one-time meeting.
  • Pray for the LDS missionaries before your meeting, during your meeting, and after they leave. Prayer is important.
